My arranging abilities started when I was cast as the Cowardly Lion in his high school production of "THE WIZARD of OZ".  The song "If I Were King Of The Forest" (a classic from the movie version) was not included in the stage version.

So, armed with a limited knowledge of simple instrumentation and transposition for band instruments, I sat down and plunked out the song "by ear" and made charts for the band to accompany, while I belted out the song.  To my amazement, he front page from my first score, hand-written 27 years ago, was recently discovered while clearing out some old music files.

I spent 5 years at Jackson Community College where he began as a music major.   Within just a few months, the music department found out about my interest in, and ability for arranging music and I was hired to help write the arrangements for the college's UP WITH PEOPLE-like group- THE STARFLEET AMBASSADORS.   I "lifted"- by ear- (arranged) countless scores for the group to learn and perform, earning recognition that reached Washington D.C. and Disney World, Orland, Florida.  The southern states tour brought my group  through the city of Atlanta, GA.

I also began writing original songs during this time.   Several songs - MEMORY OF A FRIEND (now entitled- ONE SPECIAL MEMORY) and MAKE YOUR OWN SPECIAL MUSIC- were featured with the STARFLEET group. Another original- FOR ME, IT WON'T BE CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR- was featured in a performance with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra.

College Years

Not long after moving the great city of Atlanta, I was commissioned to arrange and record a song for Joyce Ward.   The uptempo Atlanta Theme Song - I LOVE ATLANTA- story and song can be read and heard by visiting www.iloveatlantasong.com.     Joyce and I have just been reunited after nearly 20 years!

Much of my life has been spent heavily involved in music for churches.   I was the Director of Music for several Metro-Atlanta area churches over his career.   Each one allowed my gift for composition to grow and shine.  The chorus of original song- I WILL PRAY FOR YOU- has become a weekly song in one Gwinnett County, Georgia church.   I'm currently serving as pianist/musical consultant  for Hopewell United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Georgia, USA.

Church Music

Music Production began with my original home studio, built in 1988.  Many original songs were demoed during this time.    I also helped Llynda Fogle produce her children's tape series  TALES OF PONDERING POND- which was published by a national Church organization.   Shortly after that project, financial reasons caused me to sell the original studio in the mid-90's.

In 2003, I moved into the current Smyrna, Georgia location, where I have rebuilt my current midi-studio- D-GROOVES- where I have produced projects for many clients from simple demos to full CDs.   A former member of the Starfleet Ambassadors-  Judith Baker- contacted me, in 2004 to produce her first Contemporary Christian CD entitled:  IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH.    Shortly after production wrapped up on Judith's CD, I began my collaboration Christmas CD- YULETIDE FRIENDS, which featured 11 amazingly talented friends.
(Yours truly with Yuletide Friend- Dixie Smith)
My single- MABLE'S CHRISTMAS (2005) -featuring Jazz singer- Amy Thorn- was released on a chart in Europe and became a top 10 hit (#7)!  The websites for these these projects are to the right:

Amy Thorn has brought many of her voice students into my studio to record their demos for the semi-annual AMTC competition.   Many have won national acclaim with their talents.   I'm currently working with several students on their original songs and helping to shape the new Artists of tomorrow!   It's very rewarding.

2010 I had the honor and priviledge to produce Bryan M. Lewis's first CD!  The ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS cd was produced in the first five months of the year and includes an arrangement of LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH which I arranged during my freshman year of college.  Coincidentally, that was Bryan's age at the beginning of the project!   Bryan's CD is available on iTunes now or at his website:  www.bryanmlewis.com

July 2010 I was inspired by joining www.ReverbNation.com  and recorded a new mini-project called RELAX- IT'S YOUR ONLY LIFE.   Available at my online store: www.shop.dougccc.com

Currently, I'm in production of my third original show WMCC: CHRISTMAS RADIO; a comedy about a young intern (Bryan M. Lewis, coincidentally) who goes to work for a crazy radio station that only plays Christmas music.   The regular DJ is supposed to leave to have a baby, but decides to stay at the last minute, laboring through the Christmas Eve show and complicating things a bit.   Hilarious comedy acts sing songs that are requested by callers to the station.   Fun for the entire family:  December 4th, 2010.  More info and tickets:  www.wmccchristmasradio.com

So, if the question is "Where do I find a reliable, friendly and extremely talented Producer to help with my project?"I  (and my D-Grooves Recording Studio)  is the answer!   I am blessed to be songwriter, arranger, producer, pianist and studio technician- all wrapped into one!   Please call the number at the right to discuss your musical project.   I look forward to speaking with you.

All the best!- Doug Gazlay
